Pecans

The global market for pecan kernel is extremely volatile right now, primarily due to the
trade wars between China and the US.
In July last year China increased its tariff on US pecans by 40 per cent, from seven to 47
per cent, in retaliation to the Trump administration imposing tariff levies on numerous
Chinese imports.
America used to export millions of tonnes of pecans into China every year which is now
no longer the case. As a result they are left with plenty of excess stock to clear and are
trying to find alternative homes with very sharp pricing.
When it comes to pricing, America sets the global pecan nut price.
We will need to keep an eye on the US as this will heavily impact new season Australian
pricing.
